Ready to translate your intellectual property or scientific documents?

My name is Carola Berger. I have been specializing in patent and technical translations since 2010. As an ATA-certified translator, I am bound by the American Translators Association’s Code of Ethics and Professional Practice. You can verify my credentials with the American Translators Association here; my certification number is 503788.
Your intellectual property is in good hands.

CFB Scientific Translations LLC is owned and operated by Single Member Carola F Berger. Since 2010 (sole proprietor 2010-2020; LLC since 2020), I have provided 100% professional, human translation services, no outsourcing, no subcontractors, no external machine translation. Your intellectual property and your documents are safe with me. I don’t send your documents halfway around the globe or use third-party machine translation services in the cloud that could potentially lead to a data leak or breach. Upon request and only with your express approval, I work with a trusted colleague to provide a second set of eyes. Furthermore, I can also transmit your documents securely with PGP encryption.

Hear what my clients have to say:

If you are a patent attorney, and need a claims translation from English to German, congratulations, you have found who you are looking for! I’ve worked with several translation agencies over the years, but despite repetitive feedback, I always found errors – until I met Carola. Her work is perfect from day one. She has become a trusted partner, and I highly recommend her services.

The author gratefully acknowledges Carola’s assistance in clarifying points of language and history and her discovery of Ref. 28.

Alejandro Jenkins

In the acknowledgments of The mechanical career of Councillor Orffyreus, confidence man, Am. J. Phys. 81, 421 (2013)

I really appreciate the obvious hard work you put into these, as I literally have to add a period or something minor on each chapter usually. I’ve dealt with so many translators who didn’t put this kind of effort into their translations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a patent or scientific translation cost? How long does it take?

The fee for patent, technical, and scientific translations depends on a number of factors, such as length of the text, complexity, turnaround time, additional formatting and other requirements. I can typically translate between 5 and 10 pages of patent text with standard EPO formatting per day, but the exact turnaround time depends on the aforementioned factors as well. Please contact me for a free, no-obligation quote.

What are your qualifications and credentials? Are you ATA-certified?

I am certified by the American Translators Association for translation from German into English and from English into German. My ATA certification number is 503788. I hold a PhD in quantum field theory and a Master’s degree (Diplom-Ingenieurin) in engineering physics. I have been in business since 2010 and regularly complete professional development training on the latest topics in technology and science.

What are your areas of expertise?

I hold a Master’s degree in engineering physics and a PhD in quantum field theory. You can read my PhD thesis here. Quantum and nuclear physics, advanced mathematics, and computer simulations formed the core of my research. I have completed advanced continuing education courses in the areas of artificial intelligence, natural language processing, robotics, blockchain, DeFi, cryptocurrencies, energy (including renewables such as solar), and electronics. In the past, I consulted for a process engineering firm. Recently, I have published research on translation quality estimation.

How do you ensure quality and on-time delivery?

In addition to thorough proofreading and editing, every translation undergoes several quality assurance steps. If requested by the client, a trusted and highly qualified colleague reviews my work in accordance with the ISO 17100 standard. I also collaborate with trusted colleagues (with your explicit permission) in case your patent translation volume exceeds my capacity. I have never missed a deadline.

Why should I trust you? Are my documents safe with you?

I have been in the translation business since 2010. As an ATA-certified translator, I am bound by the American Translators Association’s Code of Ethics and Professional Practice. I will not outsource your project, nor will I send your confidential documents to third parties or to the lowest bidder. Your documents stay local, on my computer. I use a dedicated email server under my own domain to send messages. Documents that you upload are encrypted via TLS/SSL. I am happy to encrypt your documents with PGP/GPG upon request.

Do you use AI?

I do not use AI for translation unless a client explicitly requests it. While I use AI for ancillary office tasks, I never upload confidential documents containing personal information to a chatbot due to the associated cybersecurity risks. That said, I have extensive knowledge of the inner workings of neural networks, LLMs, transformers, and prompt engineering. If you are looking for a translator for your AI patent, please contact me for a free quote.
