About

Dipl.-Ing. Carola F. Berger, PhD, CT

My name is Carola F Berger. I am operating CFB Scientific Translations LLC as the sole member and principal. I am located in a small town in Santa Barbara County in California, which enables me to easily travel to the high-tech hubs of Silicon Valley and Los Angeles. I got into translation via a somewhat roundabout path, which enabled me to learn about a plurality (as the patent professionals would say) of highly technical and scientific topics along the way.

I completed my Master’s studies in engineering physics at the TU Graz, Austria, with the title of Diplom-Ingenieurin, in a cross-university collaboration with the Theory Department of the Karl Franzens University Graz, Austria. Afterwards, supported by a Fulbright scholarship, I obtained a PhD in theoretical physics (quantum field theory) from Stony Brook University, NY, USA, with a thesis on “Soft Gluon Exponentiation and Resummation.” I subsequently enjoyed a successful research career at institutions such as Stanford/SLAC and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with over 40 published scientific articles. The CT after my name means “certified translator,” a designation that translators certified by the American Translators Association may carry. I am certified for translation from German into English and from English into German.

As a life-long learner and self-professed nerd, I am continuously expanding my horizon by enrolling in continuing education classes on topics ranging from exercise physiology, robotics, and programming in Java over cryptocurrencies to renewable energy sources, scientific writing, and neural networks. I even programmed an autonomously navigating robot once and named it Boticelli.

My expertise includes the following subject matter fields:
