I am honored to be running for the Board of Directors of the Northern California Translators Association. Below is my candidate statement:
One of my life mottos is: “Every problem has a solution. You just have to find it.” (Author unknown.) I believe that this does not only apply to math and physics homework problems, but also to ethical questions and issues. Thus, I am excited to be invited to be part of the Board of Directors of the Northern California Translators Association and in particular chair Ethics. In this role, I hope to be to help NCTA members find solutions to ethical problems before they turn into conflicts. As part of the NCTA Board, I will also be happy to help with other ad hoc tasks as needed.
I have been enjoying the many benefits of an NCTA membership since 2012. I am running for a position on the board of the NCTA, because I feel that it is now my turn to give something back to this great organization. As the current Assistant Administrator of ATA’s Science and Technology Division, I know about the internal workings of a leadership council, and I am sure that the collaboration with my fellow NCTA board members will be productive as well.
I am looking forward to exciting discussions of ethical questions and to share my knowledge and experience with my fellow NCTA members (to partially quote item 5 of ATA’s Code of Ethics and Professional Practices).
